Note: In some London areas a single postcode is the registered office of a
large share of all active companies. Addresses like these usually belong to formation agents
or virtual offices, so those areas' figures partly reflect where companies choose to register,
not where they work:
East Central London (EC): EC1V 2NX, about 68,300 companies (37% of the area)
North London (N): N1 7GU, about 34,000 companies (22% of the area)
West London (W): W1W 5PF, about 34,500 companies (19% of the area)
West Central London (WC): WC2H 9JQ, about 84,900 companies (62% of the area)

The most common SIC code is 68209 (Other letting and operating of own or leased real estate), used by about 92,900 active companies in London: 8.8%, against 9% across the UK.
East Central London (EC) has the most, with about 186,000 active companies, and North West London (NW) the fewest, with about 76,200.
Companies registered in West Central London (WC) are the newest: 27% were registered in the last year, against 12% in South West London (SW). One postcode, WC2H 9JQ, holds 62% of all active companies in WC, so this may largely reflect a single registered office address.
19% of active companies in London were registered in the last year, and 10% have been registered for 20 years or more, compared with 15% and 12% across the UK.
About 205,000 companies registered in London between October 2025 and September 2026 are still on the register. The busiest month was October 2025, with about 19,100.
